Gentlemen of the Press,
This evening, I took a bold step by throwing my hat into the ring, for the ongoing electioneering process in the National Assembly New Media Forum.
You will recall that, in 2019, I was consecrated as the Pioneer Chairman of this noble Forum of Online Journalists in National Assembly. With my team of executives, most of whom are no longer working in National Assembly, we were able to pilot the affairs of this nascent organization, even to an enviable height.
As it is with any organization at formative stage, the forum was not without hitches and crises. Sure, we had our own teething experiences. The online media in National Assembly, had had her own fair share in the persecutions, confrontations and intimidations associated with ‘tradition versus innovation’ imbroglios.
But in all, we have maintained the highest sense of decorum and have lived up to our names, in the faces of confrontations and provocations. We have set a record of tranquillity that is unmatched and undisputable.
As a new phase of election is approaching, I have once again, presented myself for service, a service of selflessness and patriotism, to our forum, to our profession and to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
These few weeks of politicking have accorded me the opportunity to interact with our distinguished members again, especially, those who have been distanced by the long vacation of the National Assembly. I have also consulted widely, with my family, critical stakeholders in the industry and of course, the National Assembly community, and, the popular demand was that I should return to my position and consolidate on the gains of the New Media in these few years and make the forum hit the pedestal of global map and reckoning, in the areas of quality reportage, e-parliament and altruistic practices.
I have therefore, accepted the call to run.
I shall be seeking your support for the chairmanship position in the forthcoming election, and I have tagged my campaign as a “Consolidation” movement.
As we draw close to the poll, I shall unfold our itinerary for the campaigns and we shall be doing it wholesomely. Nobody shall be excluded as we intend to leverage on our antecedents of inclusiveness and unison.
Like a normal human being, myself or any of my outgoing executive members may have stepped on toes these few years. I take responsibilities and crave for genuine forgiveness, even as I have also forgiven those who erred against me.
Peace, love, unity and understanding are vital ingredients in this process of social engineering and I cannot overemphasise the extent our togetherness could take us, as a new organization.
I therefore call on my brothers who are also in the race, for whatsoever position, to put the interest of the forum above theirs and run the race as a family matter and not like political foes.
May the Peace of Almighty God that surpasses all things, rest with all of us as we take this forum to the next level.
Thank you all.
Comrade Yemi Itodo
