Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Sam Adeyemi has advised young people searching for a life-partner to look beyond the present saying there is “no ideal husband or wife”.
In a recent message posted on his Facebook page, Adeyemi noted that many young people keep looking for the ideal man and ideal woman.
He said “the challenge I see a whole lot of time with young people is that they are looking for the ideal man and ideal woman. You know what! Your ideal husband is already married. Your ideal wife is already married. That’s why some people fall in love with married people. They say oh! He’s such a nice man, he’s such an ideal man. He has a good job, he has money, he has this, and he has that. He’s so kind” wonderful! You know, a lot of times this person who looks perfect was not always like that before marriage”.
He said that single ladies nowadays are carried away with material things that their partner should have before accepting them that they most times forget about what might happen in the future.
“Listen, lady, if in all your assessment of a man what you’re looking for is who the person is today, you will soon be disappointed because the fact that he has a car now is no guarantee that he will have a car in 5 years’ time, “he said.
Using his marriage as a point of reference, he says “one needs to look beyond the present and be more concerned about the vision of one’s partner. Before Pastor Nike and I got married, while we were courting to be married, that was when we discovered our salaries. Then I discovered that her allowance as a Youth Corps member was more than my salary as a pastor. The day I told her my salary, I quickly told her ‘you know what? It’s not going to be like this forever, I am going somewhere, even though we will help each other at the beginning but there’s coming a time when I will tell you to keep your salary and I will bear the responsibility for this family fully” he said.
Also, he emphasized that knowing your partner’s vision is important and ability to recognize it in the one you choose to marry. “if, in your vision of your husband, he is a CEO can you recognize him when he’s not yet a CEO?”
He then cautioned single brothers who have refused to get married, even when they have a job. “They are not yet in an ideal financial situation to desist from marrying. Instead, they should seek for a wife who looks beyond the present, who can define where he is and where he is going to be.”
According to him having the same values is important as it helps marriage not to crack.
He urged singles to always learn to hear for God and be spiritually minded as no one can predict what will happen in the nearest future
. “I will tell you this, your spirituality is key. Your ability to hear from God is your greatest asset in finding someone to Marry. Nobody can predict your future or guarantee what will turn out to be 20,30 years from now except God. You need to grow spiritually and develop the ability to hear from God. Take time to pray, catch a vision of your future and then you can marry someone who aligns with that future” he said.
